The Lasting Presence of the KJV in the Music of the Black Church (Manifold Greatness)

This program related to Manifold Greatness takes a look at the lasting presence of the King James Bible in the music of the Black church. In a concert directed by Dr. Diane White-Clayton ("Dr. Dee"), the Sacred Praise Chorale of Faithful Central Bible Church will perform selected works that highlight the language of the KJV through worship music.

Sacred Praise Chorale is a unique group of dedicated Christians who love God, each other and their music. A renowned composer, vocalist, pianist, conductor and teacher, Dr. Dee is the chorale’s founding director having formed the group in 2006 after the vision of Pastor/Teacher, Dr. Kenneth C. Ulmer. The mission of the Sacred Praise Chorale is to “prepare good ground for a move of God” through the delivery of diverse styles of sacred music including Afro-American spirituals, hymns, classical works, various styles of gospel and other ethnic music. Singing monthly to thousands at their home base of Faithful Central Bible Church in Inglewood, California, the Sacred Praise Chorale brings fervor, passion and excellence to every performance, and we are delighted and honored to bring them to LMU.

With guided commentary by Dr. Dee and Reverend Jason Darden, Protestant and Multifaith Campus Minister at LMU, this celebratory evening of music in the Sacred Heart Chapel is certain to educate and inspire. The concert and reception are free and open to all.

After the concert, all guests are invited to join the performers and lecturers for a light reception and viewing of the Manifold Greatness exhibition in the William H. Hannon Library.

Guests arriving from off-campus may park for free any time after 7:40 p.m., which should provide for ample time to park and walk to the Sacred Heart Chapel. (We recommend parking in the guest lot just west of the Chapel.) Read more about directions and parking

We are grateful to the Office of the Provost, the Office of the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education, the Department of Theological Studies, Campus Ministry, and the Department of African American Studies for their special support of this event.
