Our 2017 Women’s Voices event will explore the lives and personal narratives of women from late Imperial China. Yanjie Wang, Assistant Professor of Asian and Asian American Studies, will set the stage for understanding Chinese women’s experiences during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and introduce three diverse women’s voices that will be performed by LMU Theatre Arts students through dramatic reading. Student performances are directed by Kevin Wetmore, Professor and Chair of Theatre Arts.
The voices will include:
- A matriarch
- A peddler
- A reformer
Our cast:
- Gu Ruopu: Seanna Duong
- Ning Lao Tai Tai: Natasha Aquino
- Zeng Yi: Bella Asali
As a special treat, Charlotte D’Evelyn (Visiting Professor of Asian and Asian American Studies) will give a short performance of Erhu (Chinese two-string violin) at the beginning of the event as guests are taking their seats.
This event is co-sponsored by the William H. Hannon Library, the Department of Asian and Asian American Studies, and the Department of Theatre Arts.
